About GOED
Free enterprise
Limited and effective government
Future mindset
Collaboration
Data informed
Prudent investment
We champion Gov. Cox’s commitment to providing economic opportunity and livability for all Utahns. GOED actively supports this work in three key ways:
- We convene stakeholders, partners, and players to maintain alignment and move at the speed of business
- We connect industry partners with education and workforce sectors to maximize high-paying jobs and economic opportunities to Utahns from both inside and outside of our state
- We catalyze economic prosperity by deploying state resources as needed, including incentives and project commitments
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development serves as the State of Utah's lead economic driver, guiding Utah’s economic ascent, which is driven by private industry.
We work alongside a statewide economic development ecosystem that includes numerous stakeholders, partners, and players. GOED leads collaborative efforts with these groups — serving as the common thread, setting direction, and convening the right people and resources to grow Utah’s pipeline of opportunities and ensure accountability.
As a part of this work, we often focus on retaining and recruiting companies and bringing high-paying jobs to Utah.
Our teams manage numerous programs and initiatives, such as:
- Business Incentives
- Federal Opportunity Zones
- International trade and diplomacy
- Economic coordination across rural Utah
- Tourism and film production
- Utah entrepreneurs and businesses

Our History
Over the years, GOED has been known by many names. Yet, it has remained committed to growing and supporting businesses in Utah's urban and rural communities and encouraging an innovative, entrepreneurial approach to work.
